So I received a great tip by example(thanks Shanna) to have a "prize" basket with little prizes, and when they get 20 punches on a little card, they get to pick a prize. I've done this type thing before, with a star chart, or bribery (which I recently read isn't good parenting, but incentives are), but this seems to be working really well. I punch on random, good behavior that I observe throughout the day. I haven't been sticking to it too strictly this week, being the first week to use it, but bit by bit I have.
So today while Ed's on call at the hospital, we went to visit him. It was a fun, but long day and coming home I knew I'd have my hands full because Bella's been really sick with a horrible cold virus/fever/upper respiratory thing. Feeling overwhelmed I put Bella in the tub to get her ready for bed. I asked Jon to watch her so I could warm up some left overs. When the table was ready I went to check on them. Jon was in the tub with Bella (yeah, 2 baths at once) playing with her. I got her out and Savannah was begging to get in. So I asked Rebecca to help with her. I heard her fill the tub with water and then I was in the bedroom putting Bella to bed. When she was in bed I checked on the girls and Rebecca had soap on the sponge washing Savannah's whole body. I wasn't expecting her to bathe her! She even washed her hair! Yeah, 3 down and Becca's already in pjs...so 4! And we can eat! And of course, they were hoping for some punches. I gave them 5 each for helpin with the little girls. Then, after dinner, they were all over cleaning the table up! Ok, another punch. All this done and ready for bed by 7! I love it when they are such good helpers!
