Tsunamis

This week Jon checked out a book on tsunamis.  I've been trying to figure out what type of books he likes because he doesn't care so much for any kinds of fiction.  I watched as he picked out a book on snakes, astronauts, space, tsunamis, oceans, fish...ok, so he likes non-fiction; things he that are real that explain why things are certain ways.

After we read the book on tsunamis there was an experiment we tried.  Fill up half a container with sand, make a village, and half with water.  Drop a small ball, medium ball, and large ball to see how the different sizes of waves affect the village

(we used rocks instead of balls)

The result:

A tsunami to our little village, toppled over trees and drowning people, the shore a mess.  But did it stop?  Oh no, the boys made sure there were wave after huge wave as they kept slamming the container with their rocks.  The container finally broke.  Boys.  Destruction.  Girls stand by the wayside.  Boys having a great time, and learning too
