Last week we studied about Queen Elizabeth I. I was so excited to see the lights go on in Jon's brain today as he realized (as we sang "Fifty Nifty United States") that Virginia was actually in the United States! He knew that Sir Walter Raleigh named Virginia after the virgin queen, affectionately known as "Good Queen Bess" i.e Queen Elizabeth. The light bulb was that even though she ruled in England, Virginia was in America and Raleigh was the explorer, uh, sort of. I mean, I guess he was the organizer for the exploration. I loved seeing him get the connection :)
On a side note, on the way home from dinner tonight (yes, we ate out again; long day) Bella kept yelling "Mom!" I'd say "What" or "Yes" and the first time she said "I wub oo" "I love you too" "BYE!" "Bye".
And again, "Mom", "What?" "BYE" repeated with laughter over and over all the way home.
My kids make me smile.
And my curriculum moment, of course:
Yesterday, I FINALLY figured out how my Edu-Track software works and it's sooo AMAZING! It was a pain getting it started, but then last night I was able to put all this week's assignments in and it printed me a "report" i.e. weekly schedule, for the kids to check off when they've completed what's on it. It includes not only school work, but scouts, piano, tkd, etc. So cool. And it keeps track of all my hours, which I know will be formulated correctly because it's a computer doing the calculations ;)
Then today I received my Atelier art program in the mail. I LOVE it! I'm going to be able to teach art! I'm so excited! This was just what I needed to get them doing some cool art projects, besides the crafty stuff we do, like Valentine's boxes today (which they loved, of course). Drawing/painting.
