Ed was off today and we had nothing planned. I heard about a music/art class group for the kids so I took them. They loved it and met some new people. Boy did they just LOVE being and doing something rather then being at home, which we've done for a week and a half.
Afterwards, I got a phone call of a cancellation on a field trip, so we went to the Veterinarian Museum here in town. That was really interesting.
We came home and did math and language, then Rebecca had a group piano class. Afterwards, we went to the library where the 2 older went to "Spy School" and the younger two played. Our library is really great. The childrens' section is made for children, where they can play and read while mom looks around. I checked out some great books and visited with another woman in our group. I'm learning so much.
There is just so much diversity in home school. So many different things you can do, teach, visit, learn. So many different styles. Right now I'm on the quest to figure out my children with math and get them something that will work well for their particular learning style. There is also a book club at the library for 3-5 graders. I'm so excited because Rebecca missed her "guided" reading group at school. This month she will read "A Wrinkle in Time". I'm glad about that.
My new friend recommended some books that will hopefully help my own learning as I try to gear up for next year, because that's really what this is all about. I'm trying to figure out what we should do for school curriculum next year: order a complete curriculum, like "My Father's World", "A Beka", or "Classical Conversations", or "Sonlight", or just hodge podge it like I've been doing: "Story of the World" history, Usborne Science Encyclopedia plus Apologia Science, and Rod and Staff Grammer. I did just order "Typer Island". I've heard good things about it as a typing program. I also would need to find a writing program. But I think I'd like something that ties all subjects together, which brings me back to a complete curriculum because it grows on itself and intertwines subjects with each other so you see in history what was happening scientifically, or reading books about it. I really need something that ties it all together.
I will continue to think and pray about this.
