This morning we read a scripture story, like we do most mornings, followed by a history chapter, which we have started doing because the two are so closely related. In our history lessons we've been learning about ancient Egypt and now New Egypt. Today's story was about the Pharaoh getting scared about the Hebrew slaves growing and how he sent the law to kill the newborn baby boys (Israelites). It's easy to see he was nervous because Egypt had been conquered by the Hyksos not too many years earlier and the Israelites posed a threat. Then we go into the story of Moses. As we are a bit into the lesson, Rebecca's face shows a "light bulb moment" and she says, "Mom, it's like church and history at the same time--like 2 in 1!"
It was a proud moment. Yes, dear, faith and religion have been around since the beginning and so it's definitely in the history of the world. It plays a big role.
