The volcano

On tying up loose ends as we gear up for another school year, here's the volcano Ed made with the kids in March...yes, March. 

The kids have been begging me to explode the volcano for months, so how come we haven't exploded the volcano before now?  It was just on the list of loose ends to tie up, an unfinished project.  But when we did it, it was pretty cool. 

We tried 2 different methods.  First we tried baking powder with vinegar (and red food coloring, of course)

It kind of oozed out, didn't explode like we'd thought. 

Next, we tried dish liquid, baking soda and more vinegar (with food coloring)

And it foamed and oozed out, a little creepier then the first time.  Then the super science friend who was over said maybe we needed to add alka seltzer and maybe it would pop and explode?  I don't know.  But now we have officially foamed out our volcano.  And it was fun!
