"In our modern society, whenever education is the subject, we always want to talk about the kids. We care about them, and we know their education is important, but we also find that it's eaier to talk about their education than to imporve our own. In reality, you are unlikely to pass on to your children a better education than you have earned yourself, no matter how much you push them. The most effective way to ensure the quality of their education is to consistently improve your own." Oliver Van DeMille
I find myself in this predicament all the time. I want my children to know this and that and more about the other thing, oh! and let's do that too! I get so "busy" doing and thinking of all these things for them. Yet, in reality, it's because my own education was so poor, despite the fact that I graduated high in my class, and am a college graduate with 2 Bachelors of Science and a Minor in Music! I often feel that I know nothing. But I want too! And I get lost in the educating of my own children to forget my own. I'm the one who needs to be reading that classic (because I have read very few, but seen lots of movies). Or, I'm the one who needs to take that art class, or quilting class, or learn how to cook that dinner or make that bread, or do that for P.E. I'm the one that needs to cultivate the art of conversation, and to remember to be positive and have a good attitude.
I project these things on my children, and I'm the one who needs them! I'm so grateful that I have the opportunity to re-learn all these things WITH my children, (since they are the ones who helped my brain go to mush i.e. pregnancy, added responsibility, etc).
