When you homeschool your children you realize how stupid you are, or how your education really LACKED, or maybe you just don't remember because pregnancy left you brain dead. At any rate, I'd never heard this Mother Goose rhyme until I was teaching Jonathan Grammar, using First Language Lessons for the Well-Trained Mind ;) And now that I know it, I find it is dead on, couldn't be more correct. And thank goodness we had that internal drain and sump pump put in!
But for this month, January rings true!
January brings the snow,
Makes our feet and fingers glow.
February brings the rain,
Thaws the frozen lake again.
March brings breezes loud and shrill,
Stirs the dancing daffodil.
April brings the primrose sweet,
Scatters daisies at our feet.
May brings flocks of pretty lambs,
Skipping by their fleecy dams.
June brings tulips, lilies, roses,
Fills the children's hands with posies.
Hot July brings cooling showers,
Apricots and gillyflowers.
August brings the sheaves of corn,
Then the harvest home is borne.
Warm September brings the fruit,
Sportsmen then begin to shoot.
Fresh October brings the pheasant,
Then to gather nuts is pleasant.
Dull November brings the blast,
Then the leaves are whirling fast.
Chill December brings the sleet,
Blazing fire and Christmas treat.
Oh January...and February too, for that matter, because you know this is all going to melt and make my sump pump work overtime. This one is taken from my garage, looking down the drive into the cul-de-sac. I opened the garage door and realized I would need to close it quickly.
But this too, will pass. And I'm soo amazed that we are actually prepared for something like this! We still need to work on our food storage, but we are good for a good while and don't need to go anywhere! Anywhere we would go is cancelled anyway. And this really doesn't affect our school day. The driveway, that I'd helped Ed shovel a few hours earlier so he could make it up the driveway. After Jon and I prayed, he made it up. Amazing, the power of prayer. What a great example for my son :)
The front yard. You just can't see the drifts that have locked us in. We can't get out the front door.
