Summer is over, and fall is fun

Summer is over.  It is officially fall.  Surprisingly, this is the first year, in many, that we are actually fine with it.  We are enjoying the fabulous temperatures of not too hot, not too cold, campfire worthy s'mores.

Ed was home this week.  Instead of planning a vacation to anywhere, we decided to stay home and winterize  by doing fall clean up.  We thought, "We have a week.  We will get tons done."  And we were busy, very busy doing things and cleaning up.  I decluttered the house, he decluttered a lot of tree stuff by cutting down/trimming, etc.  And we worked hard for 4 days.

But it doesn't look like we did anything :(

We thought we'd have a yard sale, but decided to give away the clothes and craigslist the most valuable stuff.
We did a roundabout mess of science and history, which was fine because I'd planned this week off from school.

But we  caught up in history by attending a re-enactment of the Civil War.  It was very cool.  We went to the campsite of the Union soldiers. Then we went to the campsite of the Confederates (it was cooler; they had lots of horses) The battle was staged, the guns went off, the canons fired, and in the end, in Herman, MO, the south lost that battle.

After the war, we listened to "Lila", a storyteller with slave ancestry back to the Civil War in central Missouri.  She was very captivating.  Here's our crew.

We also did some science this week, by building molecules.  Also, very cool.

Rebecca continued home-ec (she is a devoted cupcake maker)

Jon helped cut down trees.
Bella and Savannah played a lot.

Savannah lost her first tooth!  This is the before (self-portrait)

 And after
